Spinal Cord Injury
What are spinal cord injuries?
SCI is caused by damage to the spinal cord and can occur due to trauma, cancer and or other neurological conditions. The level of impairment after a SCI is dependent on the level of damage to the spinal cord (i.e. cervical, thoracic or lumbar) and whether it is a complete (severed spinal cord) or incomplete (partially injured spinal cord) injury.
It is estimated that approximately 15,000 Australians live with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). After a SCI you may experience weakness, loss of sensation, loss of coordination and spasticity.
